I Gave My Heart Portrait of Lauren Fenningham by Elisa Markoff

From the artists Elisa Markoff: Creating the portrait of Lauren was both a challenge and a blessing. As I got to know her better I became more aware of the tragedy of her loss and the impact of gun violence on our community.

I hope her portrait helps her family in their healing journey and I thank Souls Shots for giving us the opportunity to bring both comfort and awareness through the power of art.

Lauren Fenningham August 9, 1994 - August 6, 2013

From the curator: I am sorry that Lauren’s mother, Sherree Smith, did not write any commentary for the catalog. She speaks so passionately and beautifully about her daughter and the wonderful dream she had about her that is depicted in this portrait. Elisa was able to incorporate the lovely details down to the pink sweatshirt that Lauren was wearing in the dream. This painting often reminds me of a book illustration and makes me think of a very important page out of the life story of this young woman and how her spirit continues to buoy her family even after she has gone from this world.
