Philadelphia Ethical Society is Host to Exhibition and Panel Discussion
Philadelphia Ethical Society was our gracious host for the month of May. On May 24, attendees enjoyed a delectable reception in the rooms where the exhibition was installed before and after an informative and moving panel discussion.
Moderated by Leader Hugh Taft-Morales, questions were answered and discussion started by panelists including artist Amanda Condict, Marcia Hatchett, mother of Craig Hatchett who was killed by gunfire, Carol Lastowka, Southeastern Coordinator CeaseFirePA, and Laura Madeleine, Executive Director of Souls Shot Portrait Project. While Laura gave a brief history of the project, Marcia spoke about how she is eager to speak out whenever she can about the consequences and toll of gun violence. She is set to retire from teaching and, in Craig’s honor, will be getting more involved in activism. Amanda, too, is committed to using her talent to bring attention to the cost of gun violence. Carol is a moving speaker about the common sense of creating a safer society. She is a gun owner and has been a hunter all her life.
The well attended event sparked many impassioned comments from the audience and our hope is that they have since found a way to actively commit to make a difference in the quest for peace.
