Brad Nau, CBS3, wins Emmy for film about Souls Shot Portrait Project

I received a text and email this morning that gave me hope. All of us involved in Souls Shot Portrait Project are passionate about connecting with people through our artwork; about allowing those most affected by gun violence to be seen and heard. Thanks to the similar passion of Brad Nau, our mission was amplified.

Brad’s story called “Art and Souls” that he made for CBS3 has just won a NATAS Mid-Atlantic Emmy Award. He wrote “I believe that you and your group of artists are doing very important work and wanted to thank you for your time and helping me produce that story of yours. . .Thanks again for your efforts and helping to honor those lives lost. You have created an important mission.”

Thanks and congratulations to Brad! We hope that everyone seeing the video, everyone seeing the artworks we create, will be moved to take strong action to alleviate the violence and to work towards changing the systems in place that promote and exacerbate it. Please remember to cast informed votes for candidates that share in this quest on November 8!

Also, special thanks to artist Keisha Whatley for allowing Brad into her studio to film this story and for her continued support of the Project through her art and voice.

Protector, Warrier, Peacemaker portrait of Moses McMillian by Keisha Whatley, 2019.

This is the portrait of Khallid Henderson, Kha2X, that artist Keisha Whatley can be seen working on in “Art and Souls”. This painting is currently on view in our exhibition at Abington Art Center.
