Alejandro Portrait of Alejandro Garcia by Beth Carson

From the artist Beth Carson: It was an honor to be able to paint an image that I pray will bring warm memories of Alejandro's smile to his family and friends.

From the curator: Beth expresses what the artists who participate in the Souls Shot project would all echo. The experience of getting to know each of the people represented by our portraits is an honor and a privilege. The families and friends of the victims are so generous with their time and their very personal and often painful memories of their loved ones. It is a challenge to bring to public view an artwork that will convey who that person was, either in a realistic way, such as with Beth’s snapshot-like glimpse of Alejandro and his gleefully crinkled nose and broad smile, or in the many abstract approaches that our artists employ. Thanks to all who participate and all of you who support us with your comments and sharing of these portraits.
