A Time of Rest for the Portraits but Not for Our Volunteers or Our Mission

Many, many thanks to our volunteers this week, Ilene and Charlie, for their careful and loving help in packing up our treasured works of art; the portraits. Our hosts for the next two months have had to postpone our exhibitions. We are hoping the August exhibition planned for Logan Library will be able to happen. For now they are being stored at the Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill who have graciously provided a safe space for them.

In the meantime we will work to keep up and amplify our online presence. In this time that, thankfully and tragically overdue, we are rethinking the inequities in our systems. The overwhelming number of people of color, mostly young men, represented in our portraits gives visual evidence of this.

While we were packing up the portraits, we were talking about how we form relationships with these souls. Beyond viewing them we who move the artworks from place to place, are physically touching them, talking to them, embracing them as we gently put them in a safe place until the next opening. These portraits are indispensable as ambassadors to the world. They live on to tell their stories, touch those who see them, move people to take action.

Thank you to all our participants, volunteers, supporters. Let us work towards the justice that will bring peace.
