Kristian Hamilton-Arthur

From the curator: This is another portrait where neither family member nor artist wrote any commentary for inclusion in the catalog. When I look at this intimate portrait, I am engaged by the simplicity of the composition and the color areas. I am especially drawn to Kristian’s hand grasping what looks like white cloth. His posture, bending down, his calm, peaceful gaze and shy smile, make me think he is offering to help in some way. The white cloth, to me, symbolized a purity of action. I do not know the actual facts about this young man’s life, but I feel certain the world would be better if he were still be with us.
