Iziah Portrait of Iziah Amir Ramon Lewis by Ruth Wolf

From the artist, Ruth Wolf: We exchanged a few emails and I received a few photos.

I remember I spoke once with Latesha, on the phone, about her son, Isaiah.

I heard a mom in mourning for a son full of promise.

I painted this portrait for Latesha.

To reminder her that her son is in a better place.

As artists we can paint all the portraits of all the souls shot but will that stop the hate.

From the curator: This large portrait is another that draws attention and has a powerful effect on viewers. It is a diptych whose two levels reinforces the idea of two existences. Iziah wears a bold red mantle which drapes onto the second panel where his reflection drifts in a peaceful green field. It is enigmatic and causes viewers to pause and take the time to learn more about this young man, to read how his loving family is honoring him.
